unbalanced
character box

My journey towards the realization of this work began on the first day after a long month of quarantine in which I was finally able to go out for some air. I went to a place that I really like by the sea and full of rocks. Stones of
all types and sizes. During my research to better understand the history of stone piling, I came across things that I didn't know and also about the consequences that this can generate in nature. Having as inspiration the theme I made this work. My intention was to represent the stones in a way that deconstructs the balance. When I see the piles of stones arranged in such a majestic way, the idea of balance immediately comes to my subconscious. But when you put them inside a box and without any other perspective, the feeling that passes is no longer of something so natural, which in fact can easily be confused. The balance and function of the object are lost when the context is changed.

The famous stacks of overlapping stones have prehistoric origins. In view of the interesting topic about the stacking of stones and its consequences, I decided to take the same as inspiration for this work. Stone piles marked Neolithic cemeteries in what is now Scotland, guided nautical voyages in Scandinavia and served as shrines to the Inca goddess Pachamama in Peru. Contemporary stone stackers are taking on the mantle of an ancient and artistic tradition. In the last decade, however, there has been an explosion of cairns around the world. In many national parks these same stones serve as the location of paths for trails. However, in recent times, stacking rocks has become a hobby for many, as in the making of Rock Balancing and also Land Art.
The large increase in the number of rock piles created in this way in natural areas has created a concern among rangers, environmentalists and hikers. The movement of so many rocks can cause erosion, damage animal ecosystems, disrupt the flow of rivers and confuse hikers, who rely on piled-up piles of rocks to navigate in places without clear trails.
